Helps children from asylum-seeking and homeless families, as well as unaccompanied minors, in the Annecy Region, France.
Young people undertaking the migration journey to Europe today embody the universal desire for a life lived in dignity. They may have escaped conflict and political oppression, or they may be ‘merely’ fleeing the entrenched poverty and lack of livelihood alternatives in their home countries; in all cases, their journey has required tremendous fortitude, courage and determination.
By the time unaccompanied minors arrive in Annecy, they have survived the most arduous challenges, and have demonstrated a capacity to navigate, at times subvert, and ultimately overcome the greatest of hurdles, often in the face of immense risk and great loss.
Imagine... What it feels like to seek refuge, as a child, thousands of miles away from your own family, in a foreign country. How it feels as a volunteer to get involved in helping unaccompanied minors. We hear about ‘the refugee crisis’ in the news and it’s easy to think that it is something happening somewhere else, far away. But actually it is on our doorstep, in our local community.
Lake Aid was created to advocate for a welcoming and caring local community in Annecy, through building relationships with families in need.
We connect local residents with asylum-seeking and homeless families in the Annecy area. We work with other local charities to provide activities and essential supplies for children in need.
How do we support migrant children?
- We organise fun events and holiday camps for children in need throughout the year.
- We collect and distribute supplies to homeless and asylum-seeking children whose parents can’t afford them.
- We provide essential supplies and clothing for new-born babies; to families in need.
- More recent projects have included making and selling Covid19 face masks with asylum-seeking women, sharing an allotment with a refugee family, offering activities and support to unaccompanied minors, and helping asylum-seeking women find legal and paid work.
Lake Aid is run entirely by volunteers. 100% of the donations given are used to fund our activities and events. Thank you for your donation!
